Since 1996, the Gigometer™ has published a daily free listing of live music shows in the "7 boroughs" — yes, that includes venues within walking distance of the PATH in Hoboken and Jersey City.

Show times are based on the "NYC night life" day, from 4 am to 4 am. Times in round brackets after performers' names are intended to be actual set times, as claimed by the venues or the performer, while times in square brackets on a new line are either an approximative guess or a "doors open" time, whatever that really means.

Click/tap venue names for a popup with links to their web site and to a Google map, and sometimes additional info. Click/tap band names for link to the bands' web sites and in many cases (still in progress...) to terse descriptions of style, genre, personnel, etc.

Our selection is based entirely upon our personal experience of live performances, not recordings, not reviews, not press releases. We have seen every one of those performers and bands (or one of their main members) live on stage at least once, except for rare provisional listings based upon the strong recommendation from one of our small group of trusted advisors, who have themselves seen the bands in question. (And, since the last unpleasantness, based on live streaming concerts in a few instances.)

The daily spotlight points to a significant, rare, unusual, or sometimes (but not necessarily) best show of the day.

The listing covers one month, plus a sneak peek at some notable later shows that are likely to sell out before they would normally appear.
