About the Gigometer™

Since 1996, the Gigometer™ has published a daily free listing of live music shows in the "7 boroughs" — yes, that includes venues within walking distance of the PATH in Hoboken and Jersey City.

Our selection is based entirely upon our personal experience of live performances, not recordings, not reviews, not publicists. We have seen every one of those performers and bands (or one of their main members) live on stage at least once, except for rare provisional listings based upon the strong recommendation from one of our small group of trusted advisors, who have themselves seen the shows in question. (And, since the last unpleasantness, based on live streaming concerts in a few instances.)

This is the 10th major version of the Gigometer. It was rewritten from scratch to work better with the narrow, mouse-less screens of mobile devices while keeping most features intact. In particular, the former mouse-over information panels and javascript popup maps have been replaced by pseudo-popups with ordinary links. Click or tap on things like venues or band names, you'll like it!

Venue names provide a popup with links to their web site and to a Google map, and often some additional info. Band names similarly link to the bands' web sites and in many cases (still in progress...) to terse descriptions of the music genres.

Show times in round brackets after performers' names are intended to be actual set times, as claimed by the venues or the performer, while times in square brackets on a new line are either an approximative guess or a "doors open" time, whatever that really means.

The daily (*)spotlight points to a significant, rare, unusual, or sometimes (but not necessarily) best show of the day.

The listing covers one month, plus a sneak peek at a some later shows that are likely to sell out before they would normally appear.
